EVENTS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR

The academic year surfaces along with a variety of concerts and special events that attempt to capture the audience over a mesmerising experience that calls for the immersion of all along with the vocation of the raag. The range of platforms for the promotion and sharing of the gift in the name of Indian Classical Music include, ‘Malhar Ke Prakaar’, the monsoon concert, ‘Viraasat’, a platform for the young budding artists, ‘Aaroh’ that calls for emerging performers among the students of St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous), Mumbai, the Indian Music Group’s ‘Birthday Concert’ that celebrates the anniversary of its birth and lastly, for our flagship  event, 'Janfest' , a Indian Classical Music concert like no other.  

JANFEST

The first quadrangle of St. Xavier’s College Mumbai lights up with a melange of colors and soulful music every year on the 25th and 26th of January, as the Indian Music Group organizes its annual music extravaganza called ‘Janfest.’ Over the years, Janfest has transformed into a magnum opus with a growing audience of over 2000 avid listeners. Thriving with all guns blazing since 1979, Janfest is undoubtedly one of the most awaited classical music concerts in India. 

 Rains play an important role in the realm of Indian Classical music. To celebrate this beautiful bond between the two, the IMG organizes its annual monsoon concert, "Malhar ke Prakaar" This concert has witnessed performances by Kalapini Komakali, Ashwini Bhide Deshpande, Padma Talwalkar to name a few.

MALHAR KE PRAKAR

The curtain raiser to Janfest is the baithak called the Birthday Concert to commemorate the institution that is the Indian Music Group and the precursor to the most awaited classical music concert Janfest, is Birthday Concert.

The artist line-up for Janfest is revealed at the end of this Concert. Musical Maestros like Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasa ji, Pt. Ronu Majumdar ji, Devaki Pandit ji and Pt. Yogesh Samsi ji have performed at this concert.

BIRTHDAY CONCERT

Standing true to its objective of increasing the reach of classical music among all, the Indian Music Group organizes an annual Music Appreciation Course. Aiming to acquaint the youngsters and develop their taste for Indian Classical Music, this 2-day course attracts college students and keen music enthusiasts. With their engaging lecture demonstrations, presentations, and workshops MAC helps in a further understanding of the fundamentals of music. Making the seemingly complex classical music easy to understand , the Indian Music Group takes upon the responsibility of making students appreciate its essence. 

For the students of St. Xavier's College, Mumbai who are registered under the honours course, this course comes under the interdisciplinary courses and offers 1 honours credit to the students. 

MUSIC APPRECIATION COURSE

VIRAASAT

The legacy and heritage of Indian Classical Music have inspired people from time immemorial. Capturing the essence of this feeling, we present to you one of our most popular concerts, Viraasat. The event has been a witness to budding instrumentalists, dancers, and vocal renditions carrying forward the legacy of their art. We wish to give the stage to proficient young artists and the IMG firmly believes that young artists should be given the opportunity and the encouragement that they deserve. Born out of this belief is this grand young artist concert of the IMG - Viraasat.
