How It All Started

The Indian Music Group was established in 1973, as a student organisation. A small initiative taken up by 3 students, Chandu Kapadia, Harish Kapadia, and Yusuf Gandhi and, by then principal, Fr. Lancy Pereira under the guidance of the great Ustad Alla Rakha Khan.

From organising small concerts and baithaks within the college, from the the first very Janfest to today when IMG is known to all, across colleges, and age groups, where our flagship event- the Janfest is now considered one of the most prestigious Indian Classical Music Concerts in the country, IMG has come a long way!

A strong pillar of support through all these years, has been our college St Xavier’s College and our staff who has always stood by us, and, of course the student committees of all years who have worked towards keeping the legacy of the IMG.

IMG, a prestigious and culturally rich organisation that it is today is the fruit of all the work that these people have put into it. it gives us immense pleasure and pride in announcing that on the onset of 2023, IMG will be entering its 50th year! Half a century down and many more years to come, we are gathered here today to celebrate IMG’s 50th Birthday!

Humans Of IMG

The Indian Music Group (IMG) caters to a wide audience who are eager to see what it brings forth to them with every event. However, this isn't possible without the committee members, volunteers and the support of the Staff and advisory board members. The people of IMG shape its culture and it is necessary to acknowledge them and give them a platform for expression, not only through art forms such as Indian classical music and dance but also for expression their gratitude towards this committee in particular and the artform in general through a section known as "Humans of IMG".

Here, we bring to you the stories of the humans of IMG like the student organisers, the staff, the artists who are closely connected with IMG and the members. The series of HOI acts as a link between the audience and these humans reducing the proximities between the two while personalising and humanising the committee. The stories weave together a tapestry that tells a tale like no other, bringing us closer at every step of the way.
